About
Lisa Hastreiter-Lamb is an artist residing in southern Arizona who works with oil, charcoal, graphite, mixed media and occasionally cut paper. Magical realism is her artistic style; the work presents a realistic depiction of the world while incorporating magical elements filled with symbolism that reveal a narrative just below the surface. Objects including birds, clouds, and flowers, among other natural elements, metaphorically narrate her work. Lisa also draws and paints portraits and still-life subjects just to express their beauty. Undulating brushstrokes and gestural linework exemplify her style and give her subjects emotional depth.
Lisa has exhibited in numerous group shows both locally and nationally and has several pieces in private collections. She has received “best of show” and “honorable mention” in juried exhibits. She also accepts commissions. Alongside her studio practice, Lisa was a museum professional for over 25 years and is currently a high school art teacher. These job experiences feed her creative spirit.
Artist's Statement
Creating is a spiritual act for me like prayer and meditation. I am an oil painter who also loves to draw, and work with paper and mixed media. The subject matter of my work is rooted in my spiritual quest to accept the struggles of the human condition and to grow spiritually. My work often has a mystical or magical feeling.
